Northstar Ventures, a prominent source of early stage risk capital for new tech firms, has announced the appointment of Edward Twiddy as its new Chair. Twiddy, a co-founder of Durham based fintech Atom Bank and former Director of the North East Local Enterprise Partnership, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
In addition to his position at Northstar Ventures, Twiddy will continue as the Director of Environment, Society and Government at Atom Bank, where he has been instrumental in engaging with schools and universities in the region. His expertise extends to roles at Durham University, Tyne Rivers Trust, and his time with HM Treasury and the Northern Accelerator program.
Twiddy expressed his excitement about joining Northstar Ventures, citing the firm’s vision to support the devolution agenda, commercialize innovation from university partners, and empower entrepreneurs from all sectors of society. He replaces David Hickey, who served as Chair for nearly a decade and played a pivotal role in the firm’s growth and success.
Alasdair Greig, Director of Northstar Ventures, praised Hickey for his guidance and mentorship, welcoming Twiddy at an exciting time for the company. Northstar Ventures is expanding its range of venture funds, including a move into EIS, and Twiddy’s government and entrepreneurial experience will be invaluable.
