Improvement in Oman’s Food Security Index with Growth in Availability and Sustainability Indicators

Muscat – Oman has made significant strides in enhancing food security and ensuring the safety and quality of its food supply. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has been a key player in this progress, focusing on developing a robust food safety and quality system to meet established controls and legislation.

Central to these efforts has been the implementation of regulations and laws, such as the Oman Food Safety Law, in collaboration with relevant authorities. The Food Safety and Quality Center has been pivotal in setting and updating regulations and technical specifications for food products, including the preparation of seven draft Gulf technical specifications and regulations between 2022 and 2023.

The Ministry, through the Food Safety and Quality Center, remains vigilant in monitoring and responding to food safety and quality developments on both local and international fronts. This includes overseeing food production establishments, inspecting food products, verifying laboratory reports and labeling information, and ensuring that products in local markets adhere to required standards. This dedication to food safety and quality underscores Oman’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its population.
