PS5 & Xbox SeX Rumored Specs Compared

Ps5 Vs Xbox Sex Rumored Specs Compared

A lengthy new report has gone up at EuroGamer which goes into great detail about the main specs for the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X gaming consoles – collating the various leaks and reports over the past few months into a basic comparison of the two console’s power.

Both consoles run on CPUs with eight Zen 2 Cores with SMT (clocks undisclosed). Their GPUs differ in that the PS5’s is apparently 36 custom Navi compute units at 2000MHz while the Xbox Series X’s is 56 custom Navi compute units at approx 1700MHz. Both have differing GDDR6 memory too with the PS5’s at 448 or 512GB/s vs. Xbox Series X’s 560Gbs.

What does that mean? From the sounds of it the Series X will have the slight power advantage graphics wide with 12 teraflops (TF) vs. 9.2 teraflops for the PS5 – in any case both will be more than twice as powerful as their current consoles. However that extra power will likely come at a higher price for Microsoft as opposed to the PS5 which could well be on par with its predecessor’s launch price.

None of this is confirmed at this point, including important details like SSD capacity, and the original report says that “all that we really have is more of a block diagram of one component of the processor bolstered by assumptions”.

Speaking of assumptions, while many assume the ability to play PlayStation 4 games on the PS5 is a given at this point, a new report at HipHop Gamer suggests the console will boast a remastering engine allowing backward compatibility for pre-PS4 titles including PS2 & PS3 games. So don’t throw out your “Demon’s Souls,” “Silent Hill HD Collection,” “Metal Gear Solid HD Collection” or old “Infamous” or “God of War” games just yet.

Sony is rumored to be unveiling the PS5 next month during a PlayStation press event at which point we’ll hopefully have some more solid facts.
