The 52-year-old executive has admitted that the gaming industry finds itself in the midst of uncertain times due to the health crisis.

Asked whether the Xbox Series X remains on course to be released later this year, he told CNBC’s ‘Squawk Alley’: “Overall, I think we’re in line with where we thought we would be.

“I’d say the bigger unknown is probably the game production. Game production is a large scale entertainment activity now, you have hundreds of people coming together, building assets, working through creative.”

Meanwhile, Spencer recently teased details of the eagerly-awaited Xbox Series X.

He revealed that the upcoming console – which is slated for release in late 2020 – will ultimately represent a dramatic shift in the gaming industry.

He was asked on Twitter: “Hi @XboxP3. With the imminent arrival of the XSX, what technologies do you think allow this spectacular advance? We have been hearing about Raytracing for a few months and recently about photogrammetry. Would this be a new course? (sic)”

And in response, Spencer said: “RT on console will be great. I’m very focused on the work we are doing around Dynamic Latency Input (DLI). In my view the feel of games this upcoming generation will change as dramatically as any since 2D to 3D given CPU upgrade, DLI, memory bandwidth and SSD. (sic)”
