On April 12th, 2019, Nintendo launches its virtual reality kit exclusively for its Switch system. It comes with multiple VR experiences that are family friendly. Doug Bowser, Senior VP of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo, stated:

Nintendo Labo is inherently designed to encourage imagination and creativity in people of all ages by blending real-world and virtual experiences. This new kit takes that concept a step further by layering in virtual reality to bring the Toy-Con creations to life and encourage family-friendly, pass-and-play experiences.”

Some of the experiences Nintendo has revealed are an Ocean Camera that simulates being an ocean photographer, a House Camera to take photos of strange creatures in a mysterious home, and a Bird game that lets you soar on a bird’s back to collect items, among many others.

The VR kit will be available in retail stores with two primary configurations. One lets players get all Toy-Con creations – which feature the above games – and another that has a smaller selection of projects.

The Nintendo Labo VR Kit for $79.99 includes the Switch software and materials to build all six Toy-Con projects which include the VR Goggles, Blaster, Camera, Bird, Wind Pedal, and Elephant. It also comes with a Screen Holder and other accessories.

The Nintendo Labo: VR Kit – Starter Set + Blaster for $39.99 includes the Switch software and components to build the Goggles and Blaster. It, too, will come with the Screen Holder and additional accessories.

If you choose to purchase the starter set, there are two expansion set options. Expansion Set 1 for $19.99 includes the Toy-Con Elephant and Camera for those VR games. The Expansion Set 2 is also available for $19.99 and has components to build the Wind Pedal and Bird.

While it is family friendly, Nintendo suggests no one under seven years of age use it unless parents choose to change the in-game settings to only a 2D experience.
