Developer Frogwares has announced that Sherlock Holmes Chapter One will now be launching later on last-gen consoles.
The upcoming sleuthing adventure was due to launch simultaneously on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S later this year, but the Xbox One version will now launch a few weeks after the Xbox Series X|S release. This news comes just a few days before the final launch date for the game is due to be announced, with a release date trailer coming from Frogwares later this week.
“We have a release date trailer all locked in and scheduled to air on Thursday 16th September, but we wanted to tell players now that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game won’t be part of this first launch,” explained communications manager Sergey Oganesyan. “We’d rather be open with you about it now than have it appear out of the blue, hidden at the end of an announcement or a trailer.”
“We understand some players will be upset about this news, but we made the decision with you first in mind. Rest assured, we are not cancelling these versions. We only need more time and a little breathing room for our team to wrap these up properly. We are talking a few weeks at most, but this is still to be seen.”
The good news is, we’ll soon be getting an Xbox Series X|S release date for Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, alongside a 7-minute gameplay deep-dive video. Keep your eyes here for those on Thursday.
Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is due to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC this autumn, followed by Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later in the year.
