EA and Zoink have shared their first gameplay trailer for the darkly quirky Lost in Random – hot on the heels of their selection to be presented at the Tribeca Film Festival. With a Burton-esque art style, Lost in Random is a story centred around a desire to break free from chaos and randomness that affects the world of Random, a realm where everything relies on the roll of one die. You play as Even, a little girl set on her journey into this incredible world by a terrible event that sees her separated from her sister, Odd, but a simple roll of a die, forced to leave and live with the evil queen that rules this twisted realm. thankfully, Even is fortunate to be befriended by Dicey, a cheeky little die that will become key to the adventure.
The game will blend exploration, in which you’ll speak to many weird and wonderful characters, hunting down coins that will be traded for cards which are integral to the game’s combat.
Combat takes place in real time, with Even having to chip away energy from the enemies that would attack her. These gradually feed Dicey and power it up until you can roll and freeze time. At that point you can then unleash the combat cards, which can do all manner of things. It can turn Dicey into a ticking time bomb, summon a huge hammer and super strength, or Uma’s Blessing which will.
There will be different tactics, depending on the battle, some of which will play out like a board game and rely on rolling Dicey.
The world looks beautiful; a real mix between Tim Burton’s Nightmare before Christmas and Coraline, and if you’re a fan of dark, gothic fantasy, with an approachable twist, Lost in Random should be well on your radar. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for it.
