One of the benefits of hosting an E3 conference is the games you get to showcase become associated with your console. That was definitely the case for Xbox. As I watched the showcase, each game shown had me wondering if it was also coming to PlayStation. One in particular was Supergiant Games’ critically-acclaimed dungeon crawler Hades.
The trailer confirmed Hades as coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows 10 on August 13, 2021.
But fret not, the game will also be released on PlayStation platforms. Even though Sony hasn’t hosted its own PlayStation showcase, the blog was updated to confirm that the award-winning title would also be released on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on August 13.
Of course, Xbox gamers still have the added perk of Hades being free on Xbox Game Pass on launch day. Hades is one of 18 titles come to Xbxo Game Pass on Day One this year alone. Microsoft showcased a total of 41 games slated to arrive on the monthly subscription service.
Hades, a rogue-like, dungeon-crawler, hack-n-slash, was originally released in September 2020 for PC/Mac and Nintendo Switch. In the game, players control Zagreus, the son of Hades and prince of the Underworld, as he attempts to escape from Underworld and reach Mount Olympus. The game received nearly universal acclaim with critics praising tis story, characters, gameplay and soundtrack.
Hades was in the running for 2020’s Game of the Year award and had a great case despite being an indie release. The award ultimately went to The Last of Us Part II, but there’s no denying Hades was deserved.
Because of Hades limited release on PC and Switch, I never actually had a chance to play the game upon release. However, I’m definitely looking forward to it coming to Xbox and PlayStation. Once again, Hades will be available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One (also Xbox Game Pass) as well as PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on August 13, 2021.
