Flynn: Son of Crimson release date sets action platforming for September

Publisher Humble Games and developer Studio Thunderhorse will launch 2D action platformer Flynn: Son of Crimson on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC with a release date of September 15, 2021, per a new trailer. The premise is that a magical barrier between the radiant island of Rosantica and the foreboding Scourge has begun to crack, “allowing dangerous creatures to slowly seep back in to try and take over the island.” Protagonist Flynn and a mythical protector named Dex will reclaim stolen Guardian Spirits and repel an evil overlord trying to break free.

Of course, the star of the show in the Flynn: Son of Crimson release date trailer is the gorgeous pixel art, which looks terrific both in motion and in static screenshots. The art will be a draw in itself to play the game, and the various regions have been hand-crafted. Gameplay-wise, you’ll be doing typical 2D action platformer things, but you can summon Dex for help “crushing tough walls and slashing/biting her way through hordes of enemies.” Flynn will also make use of his hereditary “Crimson energy” to vanquish foes, and you can trade trinkets for “new combat techniques and runes with an old war veteran” as well.

The Flynn: Son of Crimson release date trailer is short, but it gets its point across — September is going to be full of beautifully rendered action. And at present, September is looking pretty stacked with releases.
