Elite Dangerous Odyssey delayed on console as devs focus on fixing PC version

Earlier this year, Frontier Developments began rolling out its latest Elite Dangerous expansion on PC. Unfortunately, the game was not in a fit state at release and as a result, the upcoming console versions of the expansion have been delayed indefinitely.

In an effort to focus on fixing the PC version of Elite Dangerous Odyssey, Frontier is putting the Xbox and PlayStation versions of the expansion on hold for the time being. A new release window was not shared, so it is unclear if the expansion will still make it to consoles in 2021.

“We are aware and fully accept the frustration that many of our players have had with their experience of Elite Dangerous Odyssey, said Frontier CEO, David Braben. “The community have spoken, we have heard the feedback clearly and we will act on that feedback.”

“We have spent a lot of time discussing and re-evaluating our previous plans and we have made the decision to prioritise the core PC experience for Elite Dangerous. Ultimately, we believe it is right to focus our efforts on the core Elite Dangerous Odyssey experience for the platforms that we have released on, before opening up to more.”

Over the coming months, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will continue to receive updates on PC, which will fix on-going issues, improve performance and add new features/content. There will also be a series of monthly development updates to shed light on the process, while also discussing plans for work in progress content.

KitGuru Says: Elite Dangerous: Odyssey got off to a bad start on PC, so delaying the console release seems like the right move. Have any of you played Elite Dangerous: Odyssey on PC since launch? Have you encountered problems?
