Don’t turn your back, don’t look away, and don’t blink.
Due to popular demand and hot on the heels of a hugely successful run on PC and mobile, Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins is available to play on PS5 and PS4 as of today.
Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins is said to be ‘the best Doctor Who game ever’ and is developed by the award-winning development team Kaigan Games, known for its narrative-driven horror games Simulacra and Sara Is Missing, both of which were huge hits on mobile.
Fans of Doctor Who have a lot to look forward to with this one as it’s based on the critically acclaimed episode ‘Blink’ which saw the debut of the terrifying Weeping Angels. Players will be transported to Wester Drumlins in London where the Weeping Angels first appeared and will have to uncover a horrifying mystery.
Players will have some help along the way from ex-UNIT scientist Petronella Osgood, with Ingrid Oliver reprising her role from the show. The game will retain the found phone format and narrative from the original release with players assisting Osgood through solving puzzles and looking through messages, emails, photos, and videos to uncover clues.
Senior producer of games and interactive at BBC Studios Kevin Jorge reflected on the success of the original release on PC and mobile, saying: “The Lonely Assassins set a new benchmark for how we tell engaging and interactive Doctor Who stories and we wanted to give console players the chance to experience the mystery, drama, and terror of this exciting new adventure.”
It is pretty exciting to see Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins have some relative success in comparison with previous titles which have gone under the radar. It’s mostly because they’re not very good, spoilers. Regardless hopefully this ushers in a new era of quality titles for the Doctor Who franchise, with regards to gaming anyway.
Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch.
Doctor Who fans are being spoiled this year as there’s another game heading to consoles in September. Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality is a new action game and it features the fan-favourite 10th Doctor (David Tennant) and the current incarnation, the 13th Doctor (Jodie Whitaker.)
