Alan Wake Remastered is bringing an assortment of visual improvements this October 5th

Even though its visuals still hold up fairly well, the highly atmospheric Alan Wake will be getting a full remaster on October 5, 2021. The aptly titled Alan Wake Remastered will bring with it 4K visuals, support for modern resolutions, reworked character models and cutscenes, as well as a variety of other visual improvements.

Since trying to describe all of this through words alone is a bit of a pointless endeavor, allow me to share with you the recently posted comparison trailer. This one is specifically for the Xbox Series X version, but it should still give you a pretty good idea of what Alan Wake Remastered will actually look like. Have a peek:

As for whether Alan Wake itself is worth your time, I’d say the answer is yes if you’re willing to forgive a couple of flaws. The premise, atmosphere and writing are all pretty darn good, so from that perspective Alan Wake is well worth experiencing as Remedy really has managed to craft a gripping and immersive world.

Unfortunately, the actual combat encounters are all extremely simplistic and repetitive. Once you figure out the fairly easy trick for dealing with the enemies most of the tension will simply evaporate. So if you do decide to dive into the world of Alan Wake with the new remaster, make sure to focus on really soaking in the atmosphere as that’s where the game’s strengths truly lie.
